Prof. Mihael Dešman, architect, graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Ljubljana in 1981 and completed his postgraduate studies at the IUAV in Venice in 1983/84. From 1982 to 2010 he was a freelance architect in Ljubljana and a member of DESSA and Arhé. From the early 1980s until 2005 he was a member of the editorial board and technical and art editor of the book series Krt, which won the Plečnik Prize for work in the field of architectural theory in 1988. He has been a member of the editorial board of the AB - Architect's Builten, International Journal of Theory and Criticism of Architecture since 1986, and is editor-in-chief since 1995. He has written over 300 original articles and essays in books and professional and popular media. He was President of Ljubljana Architect's Association (DAL) from 2003 to 2006 and Chairman of the Architect Jože Plečnik Fund from 2006 to 2022. Since 2010 he is a professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Ljubljana. In 2022 he was awarded with The Platinum Pencil Award (ZAPS) for outstanding achievements in architecture. He is also a founding member of Atelje Dešman (1983-2003) and Dans arhitekti since 2004. 

Awards (selection): Piranesi Award 1990, European Public Space Award 2012, Golden Pencil Award 2013, First National Award for Best Wooden Building 2013, Architizer A+ Award, 2016 (jury winner), nomination for the Mies Van der Rohe Award 2017, First Prize at the Salon of Architecture Novi Sad in the category of architecture 2018, Golden Pencil Award 2023 etc.
