International 2013 Piranesi Award

_ Modus Architects, Sandy Attia, Matteo Scagnol

_ Ring road, Bressanone, Italy, 2012

Series of interventions on ring road are elegant integration of landscape architecture into infrastructure. They bring quality and identity to a part of our public realm that it is so often overlooked and undervalued, and create local landmarks from what would otherwise be forgettable moments in a landscape.

  International 2013 Piranesi Honorable Mention

_ 2A+P/A (Gianfranco Bombaci, Matteo Costanzo), IaN+ (Carmelo Baglivo, Luca Galofaro, Stefania Manna), ma0 (Massimo Ciuffini, Ketty Di Tardo, Alberto Iacovoni, Luca La Torre), Mario Cutuli
_ Maria Grazia Cutuli Primary School, Herat, Afganistan, 2011

The project is not only a symbol of reconciling and rebuilding of a community, it creates a strong composition from a direct relationship of interior and exterior spaces and territories. Consolidated by simple constructive ideas, the jury felt that was a modest architectural project with tremendous ambition as well as a building that could absorb and facilitate change over its lifespan.

International 2013 Piranesi Student's Honorable Mention

_ Student_ Stefan Nuncic
_ Mentors_ prof. Roger Riewe & Marcus Stevens; Institute of Architecture Technology
_ Graz University of Technology, Austria
_ New Central and State Library Berlin

This project was brave in its radical approach, proposing a bold evolution for the existing library typology. Its polemic spatial and structural technique provides a strong identity for the architecture and representation of how knowledge is stored and consumed.

  Piranesi Award
The conference is traditionally accompanied by the international architectural exhibition Piranesi, which presents recent works by Central European architects, created during last two years. Five works from each country – Austria, Croatia, Chec Republic, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Slovakia and Slovenia – are selected by national selectors and compete for Piranesi award. Every year the jury is composed of different members - speakers of the international architectural conference Piran Days of Architecture.

The award is named after the 18th century Italian artist and architect Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720–1778), who’s family come from Piran. Piranesi exhibition is presented in one of the galleries of Mestna galerija Piran.
